My nine year old daughter Lillie -wrote and performs this song called "A Better Place" In honor of children caught in the Cross fire of Domestic Violence...
People are able to look beyond their own pain and needs to help others. This country was built and shaped by people with a vision for a better tomorrow. Now this country is being shaped by people with no moral commitment to any needs but their own. We need people who are willing to step on the toes of leaders who are not doing what they promised, who are hiding the truth, and leaders who are not willing to make this a country that takes care of it's people. The judicial system needs to be changed to better protect victims of violence, children and those who are unable to defend themselves. Right now our judicial system better protects the rights of a perpatrator than the rights of victims.
They only way much needed changes will take place is if WE decide as a nation to take control and SPEAK UP - and SPEAK OUT LOUD. We need to bring awareness to the forfront and make our cause heard by all. We all need to stick up for the under dog, speak loud when others are being violated, not be afraid to say what is right and just. We need to better teach our children that saying "no" sometimes means "i love you" way more than saying "yes" to their every request. (I am thinking of our spoiled and rich - women in the media today that our children look to as role models.) We need to give our children a clear foundation, give them hope and a mission. So - that the Paris Hilton and Britney's of the world are not looked upon as "someone I want to be like when I grow up." Our children need to know that they are valued, and their every need matters to us...so that they grow up with a sense of self worth.
What people like to do and what they do and what they have done is not necessarily who they are. Who am I? I guess that depends on who you are asking. As for myself, my foundation is clear: I believe in GOD - Jesus Christ is my saviour, I respect my elders and ancestors. I am very curious, I like to find answers and I appreciate diversity. I value equality and respect. I defend the underdog. I fight the arrogant, which means I sometimes fight myself. Wow if people could hear my thoughts. I love my friends and family. I am loyal. I will speak up against the crowd for what I believe and for those I love. Since I became a mother, I am a much better person. I love my journey, even the hard times. I love the people in my life even those who have hurt me because those are the people I have learned from the most.
